Afterschool Explorations in Science (AXIS) Project
Profile of Science Coach Position
The science coaches for the Afterschool Explorations in Science (AXIS) Project provide hands-on training and technical assistance to afterschool program staff in carrying out developed project science activities for youth in grades 5-8. Coaches will spend an average of 2-4 hours per week in each program. Coaches will not lead the science activities, but will assist and support program staff.
Coaches will be trained at INCRE and will begin their work with programs in September 2005. Coaches will work with programs Monday-Thursday and meet at INCRE every Friday afternoon for debriefing, follow-up training and coordination with the development team and fellow coaches.
Coaches can be nominated by afterschool programs, but will be hired and paid by INCRE.
Coaches should have the following profile:
Coaches will work on a part-time basis after school and will be paid on an hourly basis at a competitive rate. This is a part-time contractual position without benefits. Local travel costs will be reimbursed. Coaches may work with one or more afterschool programs, depending on their availability.
